RETRAITE: De Noodzaak van Bidden

ZATERDAG 16 OKTOBER
O.L.V. VAN DE BESLOTEN TUIN @ WARFHUIZEN
PATER HUGO

A lot has been written over the years about the necessity of prayer. Also, myriads of appearing virgins Mary, authentic or otherwise, have been complaining about our lack of prayerfulness. However: praying is not as easy as it might appear at first glance, as anyone can testify who, at one time or another, has dozed off while praying a rosary or found himself unexpectedly immersed in the contemplation of the mystery of how to cook a half decent Christmas turkey or the one about rubber ducks. The fourth century desert father Evagrius has written some very useful things about those problems, and the orthodox hermit Gabriel Bunge has written a lot of useful things about Evagrius. One of his students, Father Hugo, is a hermit in the diocese of Groningen-Leeuwarden. We’ll visit him in the little shrine of which he is the caretaker and subject him to a thorough interrogation about the practice of prayer.

Fr Hugo, the only heremit in the Netherlands, will preach this day of retreat. The day will be held October 16th at Warfhuizen, starting with Mass at 11 a.m. and will end in the afternoon with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr Hugo will give his introductions; there will be time for silence but also a nice lunch together.

If you want to participate, please sent an email to pastoorakhjellema@gmail.com. Costs for the day will be for lunch and for renting a location for the retreat.
